Christian Bale says arrest is 'a deeply personal matter'

His latest film may have just taken a record-breaking $155m at the US box-office during its opening weekend but Christian Bale ran into trouble when he was arrested about an alleged assault earlier this week.He was later released on bail until September pending further inquiries.

The Welsh-born multi-millionaire was arrested after a row with his mother Jenny, 61, and sister Sharon, 41, in a London hotel on Sunday - the night before the West End premiere of his film the Dark Knight.

The argument allegedly broke out after the two women asked him to lend Sharon £100,000 so she could bring up her three children. Sources also claimed Jenny, a former circus clown, insulted her son's wife Sibi, 38. Bale, 34, has denied the allegations through his lawyer. Speaking at the Barcelona premiere of the box-office hit film, he said he wanted to focus on promoting the film.

He said, "It's a deeply personal matter. I would ask you to respect my privacy in the matter."

According to TMZ, When Christian’s mom and dad divorced nearly two decades ago, his mom forced him to choose between the two. Christian picked his dad, and father and son moved out to L.A. in 1992, where his dad became his manager.

Somehow Bale’s relationship with the mom has been “bitter” ever since. Bale has told friends his mother was extremely jealous of both his and his dad’s success.
