Pat Hingle dies at age of 84


Pat Hingle, who was known as top supporting television and theater actor and best known for his role in Commissioner Cordon died Saturday at age 84.

Pat Hingle was a veteran actor who's career spanned six decades. In November 2007 UNCW hosted a tribute to Hingle and recognized his efforts to establish the Pat Hingle Guest Artist Fund, which allows professionals to work with students on productions.

Hingle is traditionally known for playing judges, police officers, and other authority figures. One of his notable roles is the father of the character played by Warren Beatty in Splendor in the Grass (1961). While he is probably best known in recent times for playing Commissioner Gordon in the 1989 film Batman and its three sequels.
