Mariah Knocked Elvis Out the Box

Mariah Carey has surpassed Elvis Presley’s record for the most #1 singles. Kudos Mariah. Maybe now they’ll stop worshipping that counterfeit “king”. Pop diva Mariah Carey is heading toward a new industry record for #1 singles on the Billboard charts.

The singer beat out music and second place holder Elvis Presley's record when "Touch My Body" hit the top spot this week. Carey now has had 18 #1 hits, according to Reuters. That's an average of a chart-topper every year since she began her recording career in 1990.
With the upcoming retail release of her latest album E=MC2, chances are good for Carey to overtake the top record holder, The Beatles, who have had 20 #1 songs.
"Touch My Body's" placement at #1 on the chart was bolstered by a record-setting digital debut week. The single sold 286,000 downloads, beating the debut of last summer's smash hit "Umbrella" by Rihanna, which sold 277,000 downloads in its debut week.

In other news, Mariah Carey has recently renewed an exclusive worldwide publishing agreement with Universal Music Publishing Group (UMPG), which is sure to pay of millions for the singer. [Source]
